For a remarkable wildlife adventure, we invite you on a thrilling bear watching holiday in the wild taiga of the Kainuu region in easternmost Finland. The forest locations we have chosen, close to the Russian border, present you with a marvellous opportunity to discover, observe and photograph great mammals and predators such as brown bears, wolverine, lynx, moose, flying squirrel and wild reindeer in their natural habitat. Your bear watching wildlife holiday is a truly unforgettable experience for all animal enthusiasts.

Day 1 -
UK - Kajanni
|
Arrive at Kajanni airport, transfer to a lodge in the forest, which is near to Vartius, the Russian border, where you can enjoy a sauna and dinner.

Day 2 -
Bear Forest And Bear Watching
|
After breakfast, you will discover the finnish forest with a nature and culture walk which lasts about 2-3 hours. Dinner will be served at 4pm. Around 5pm you will receive information on the hide. Depart for the comfortable bear hide. All night in the hide.

Day 3 -
Rest/Free Time And Bear Hides
|
After breakfast you can enjoy a short bird trip or rest before the next night of bear watching. You can also use the boat at the lake, if it is not frozen.

Day 4 -
Wild Forest Reindeer/Moose
|
Today we will discover the life of the wild forest reindeer and the environment of the beaver as well as learn about the life of a moose. We will leave for an evening trip to observe moose and wild forest reindeer. We will then return back to Vartius.

Day 5 -
Morning Rest And Bear/Wolverine Watching
|
We will enjoy the quietness of the lodge, after dinner spend time bear and wolverine watching, accommodation at Vartius.

Day 6 -
Petola And Kuhmo, Beaver/Flying Squirrel Watching
|
After breakfast and some rest one hour is reserved for a visit to Petola, the predators centre, where you will find a useful and informative exhibition about the predators in Finland. In the evening we will go beaver watching or flying squirrel depending on the interest ( you can choose to reserve your choice in advance.) Accommodation at Kalevala.

Day 7 -
Wolverine and Other Predators
|
From the hotel we will drive south to reach the area of Lieksa. About 3 hour drive, on the road we will stop for bird and landscape watching. We will have lunch at the Bomda House, a traditional Karelian house. In the evening, after dinner we will go to a predator night. You can expect to see wolverine and hopefully see wolf. Stay the night there.

Day 8 -
Joensuu - UK
|
Breakfast and sauna (there is no electricity at the lodge and no shower, we will use the Finnish system to wash, the sauna, there is hot water in the sauna.) Transfer to Joensuu airport for your return flight back to the UK.

In Finland, there are between 800-900 bears, 200-240 wolves, 120-150 wolverines, 1,000-1,200 lynx, around 10,000 beavers, about 140,000 of the endangered female flying squirrel, 1500-200 wild reindeer, and literally thousands of moose, fox and minks.
What to bring: Warm clothing and shoes for outdoor activities (rubber boots, hat and gloves recommended) Film (100, 200, 400 and some of 800 Iso) and batteries Binoculars
Notes: program can be subject to changes depending on the season and the weather conditions ( example: some animals don’t go out in the rain,…). These changes are to get the best places and opportunities to see the animals, which are totally wild and free. We keep the right to change the order and places of the program . Transfer by car every day
