Finland : Cross the Border Snowmobile Safari
From Finland to Sweden by snowmobile with a night's stay at the ICEHOTEL
There is only one way to really explore the beautiful winter wonderland of Lapland and immerse yourself in the purity of the Scandinavian wilderness. A snowmobile safari is everything you could imagine it to be. Covering miles and miles of epic scenery with ease, snowmobiling is the ultimate way to explore the fells, forests and frozen lakes. Prior experience is not needed as full training is given at the start of your snowmobile safari, as well as thermal clothing to keep you warm. All that is required is that you hold a valid driving licence. Easy to master and simple to drive, the vehicles are comfortable, straightforward to manoeuvre and above all, fun. Led by an experienced guide, each day of your snowmobile safari brings you to a new and enchanting remote settlement where you will stay in cosy accommodation. Your possessions can be stored safely away on the back of your vehicle, and there are plenty of rest stops along the way for hot drinks and snacks.
One of your nights on the snowmobile safari is spent at the legendary ICEHOTEL® in Sweden, where your entire room will be made from ice. Thermal blankets and reindeer hides keep you warm and snug throughout the night. Being inside the ICEHOTEL® is a surreal experience – the place is artistically lit up with coloured lights and ice sculptures adorn every room. There is also a lively ICEBAR where they even serve drinks in glasses made from ice. Delicious food is also served here, which is just what you need to sustain you on your snowmobile safari. All drivers of a snowmobile must have a valid driving licence in order to take part in the tour.
Day 1 -
Arrival

Flying into Kittilä Airport in Finland, transfer to the friendly Lapland Hotel Ylläs Kaltio. Tuck into a delicious hot meal and relax in the sauna before getting a good night’s sleep, ready for your snowmobile safari across a magical ice world the following day.

Day 2 -
Ylläs to Kangos (approx 68 miles)

Meet up with your snowmobile safari guide this morning and listen to a brief before switching on your engine and zooming off across the soft, powdery snow. Admire the wintry scenery as you make your way to the Swedish border. Once across, continue your snowmobile safari to the charming village of Kangos on the banks of the River Lainio. Check into your guesthouse for the night and make use of their soothing sauna.

Day 3 -
Kangos to Jukkasjärvi (approx 87 miles)

This morning the snowmobile safari continues through more of Sweden’s epic scenery. After a break for lunch, we press on to the village of Jukkasjärvi which is famous for its astonishing ICEHOTEL®. It is here that you will spend an incredible night in a room made completely from ice, with thermal sleeping bags provided. When you arrive here on the snowmobile safari, you will be welcomed with a tasty hot dinner and you can spend the evening in the trendy ICEBAR.

Day 4 -
Jukkasjärvi to Lainio Vildmark (approx 68 miles)

After a night in your ice room, warm up with a hot sauna before continuing the snowmobile safari across snowy fells and frozen lakes. Keep an eye open for some of the native wildlife that inhabits these parts as you weave in and out of the trees. Today your snowmobile safari brings you to the Lainio Wilderness Centre where a warm meal greets you. Tonight, snuggle up in your own comfortable riverside chalet.

Day 5 -
Lainio Vildmark to Ylläs (68 miles)

After a hearty breakfast, make the most of the final day of your snowmobile safari. Crossing the border back into Finland, admire the beauty of the National Park before finally arriving back at your starting point, Lapland Hotel Ylläs Kaltio, where your snowmobile safari ends. Return your equipment and tuck into a hot dinner, sharing your experience with your fellow travellers.

After breakfast at the hotel, take the transfer to the airport for your flight home.
