Finland : Winter Adventure week with Dogs, Reindeer and Snowmobiles
An exciting winter adventure with snowmobiling and an overnight husky safari
Experience the arctic adventure of a lifetime on this activity break which features reindeer sledge ride and a two day dog sledge safari through the magnificent landscape of Finland. The dog sledge is pulled by a pack of huskies at your command and includes an over night stay in a wilderness hut which – you’ll be happy to know features a spa which you can relax in after a day exploring the arctic. Later in the trip you will go on an exhilarating snowmobile safari through the ancient fells and majestic forests that surround the region and enjoy you ride on a reindeer sledge. This activity packed break which features a dog sledge safari and reindeer ride is perfect for people seeking an exciting and unique holiday experience.

Day 1 -
Depart UK for Finland
|
Arrival at Kittilä airport, transfer to Muonio, Harriniva Holiday Centre. Get together with the safari group and information about the programme for the week. Dinner and overnight in cosy double rooms in Harriniva

Day 2 -
Day with the Reindeer
|
Today you will visit one of the reindeer farms. You will see a slide show about the year of a reindeer’s life which will give you information about reindeer breeding habits, and the role that reindeer play in the Lapp culture. You will also see a small exhibition of old traditional tools and things on the premises. Coffee will be served around an open fire in a typical Lapp tent. After the coffee you will be transferred to the reindeer herders, who will tell about the reindeer and reindeer husbandry. They will show you how to catch the reindeer with the Lappish lasso, and you can practise it yourself. After you have helped the reindeer herders to harness the reindeer you start the safari through the forest. One or two persons in the sledge. The duration of the safari is about two to three hours. Lunch will be served by open fire during the safari. Return to Harriniva. Sauna, dinner and overnight.

Day 3 -
Snowmobile
|
Our experienced guides will show you how to drive the snowmobile and you will spend the day driving through the Fell scenery. Lunch by an open fire in the wilderness. 2 persons per snowmobile. Duration of the excursion approx. 5 hours, the distance driven 60-80 kms. Dinner and overnight in Harriniva.

Day 4 -
Day Free
|
This day is free for your own activities. You can go cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing is possible on the nearby Olos-Fell. Or what about a snow-shoe tour? You can go shopping, or just relax. All meals and overnight in Harriniva.

Day 5 -
Dog Sled Safari
|
After breakfast you pack your equipment and get acquainted with the happy huskies. You will also be taught how to handle the sled and then you leave for the two day safari. Lunch by an open fire en route. Everybody drives own dog team of 4-5 dogs. You will drive about 25 km to a wilderness hut where you will have sauna, dinner and stay overnight.

Day 6 -
Dog Sled Safari
|
Today you will cover a distance of around 25 to 30 km. Lunch by campfire en route. In the afternoon you will return to Harriniva. After having a relaxing sauna bath you will have a farewell party with Lapp specialities. Overnight in Harriniva.
