Finland : Wild Brown Bear Adventure Holiday

Not many people get the chance to see these fantastic animals in their natural surroundings, but on our brown bear adventure holiday to Kuhmo in Finland, you can have that once in a lifetime opportunity. The brown bear can be found in North America and Northern Europe and there are around 200,000 in the world, with an estimated 1,600 in Finland alone. They are primarily nocturnal, and in the summer months they can be seen foraging for food in order to build up their body weight to survive the cold winter. Brown bears are solitary and are not usually seen in groups, but you may be lucky enough to see a female with cubs during our brown bear adventure holiday, as the young stay with the mother for up to four years.

Stretching its way around the world through countries like North America, Canada, Sweden, Norway, Russia, Mongolia and Japan, the epic boreal forest, known as the Taiga, is home to a wealth of other wildlife too. During your time in Finland you might also see elk, reindeer, wolverine, owls, eagles, lynx and wolves. On your holiday you will spend a whole night in a forest hide, but thanks to Kuhmo’s northerly location, it stays light well into the evening and the sun rises very early in the morning, meaning most of your viewing will be in daylight.
