Finland : Snowmobile Adventure to Russian Karelia

Escorted snowmobile safari across the border to Russia

Experience a riveting snowmobile adventure holiday to the Russian Karelia. You will see a unique region of great nature, hospitable people and old villages which have hardly changed over the last 50 years. You will also get familiar with the Karelian sauna culture; saunas will be heated every evening in the local tradition. Whilst on your snowmobiling adventure holiday to Russia only natural snowmobile paths will be used in the woods. You might even see wild caribou herds, elks and traces of wolves and wolverines. You will meet fishermen out on frozen lakes who dwell in houses with no roads leading to them, and with people who live solely from nature by fishing and hunting. You should pack with you; a camera, your subscription medicines, warm clothes, lots of socks and some casual clothes you can wear after the snowmobile ride. The clothes will be packed into a backpack which will be placed on the snow mobile. Complete driving apparel and a backpack for your clothes will be provided by our partners in Finland.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival Finland

You will meet with our guides at Kajaani airport. Transportation to Wild Brown Bear guesthouse (140km),which is close to the Russian border Meals included: Dinner

Day 2 - Voknavolok – Russian border (120 km)

After breakfast we will head to the Russian border. After customs we will drive to the old Karelian village of Voknavolok, followed by lunch during the safari. At Voknvolok we will enjoy comfortable family housing in Valentinas house, sauna and dinner. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3 - Kalevala (120 km)

During this day we will be driving to Kalevala village. Lunch will be served at forest. At Kalevala we will spend the night in lodges on the lake shore, or in a hotel in 2 person rooms. Sauna and dinner as usual. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4 - Luusalmi (110 km)

After breakfast it’s time to turn on the engines again for a day trip to Luusalmi village. Lunch in Luusalmi village. On the way we have the possibility do some shopping in local markets at Kaleva where we can send postcards home. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5 - Voknvolok (110 km)

After breakfast we will head back to the south . We will drive to the old Karelian village of Voknavolok, followed by lunch during the safari. At Voknvolok we will  enjoy comfortable family housing in Valentinas house, sauna and dinner. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6 - Katinkulta (90 km)

We turn back west and head home. Drive to the border, after this we head to the customs and back to the Wild Brown Bear guesthouse for the lunch. Now its time to leave our snowmobiles behind and instead relax in the bus (125 km) to Holiday Club Katinkulta. We will be spending the night in two person rooms and enjoying the tropical spa at the holiday club. Farewell dinner in the hotel restaurant. Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 7 - Depart Finland
