Iceland : A Close up Taste of Iceland
A thrilling adventure including some of Iceland's fascinating sights
This short break offers you a fantastic chance to explore some of Iceland’s highlights including The Blue Lagoon, the romantic glacial valley of Thorsmörk, Gullfoss waterfalls, hot springs at Geysir and the historic Thingvellir National Park. As part of a small group (between 6-12 people), you will be travelling in a comfortable 4WD Minibus driven by an expert driver/guide taking you close up to all the sights along the way.
Itinerary

Day 1 -
Depart London Heathrow - Arrive Reykjavik

On arrival at Keflavik airport, transfer to Reykjavik and your accommodation at Hotel Leifur Eiriksson for overnight bed and breakfast.

Day 2 -
Reykjavik and Blue Lagoon
|
After breakfast, the morning is at your leisure to explore Reykjavik, the most northerly capital in the world, with interesting sights to capture such as the distinctive Hallgrims Church, Einars Jónssonar sculpture garden and the National Museum. Your guide will pick you up from Hotel Leifur Eiriksson at 15.00 hours for a relaxing visit to the Blue Lagoon. Set amongst the lava fields on the Reykjanes peninsula; enjoy the unique experience of bathing in naturally heated, mineral rich waters believed to have healing powers. In the evening, we continue on an hours drive east of Reykjavik to our accommodation at Hotel Hekla for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 -
Glacial Valley Thorsmörk
|
Following breakfast, we head for what is considered by many to be the most beautiful valley in Iceland – the romantic glacial valley of Thorsmörk (Valley of Thor, God of Thunder). We explore this breathtaking scenery of rivers, rugged rocks and diverse vegetation against the backdrop of majestic mountains on an adventurous drive. We visit Skogar to see the magnificent waterfall before heading down to the black sand beaches and dramatic cliffs along the south coast. After a thrilling day of discovery, we arrive back at the hotel at around 17:30 in time to relax in the outdoor hot tub before dinner and overnight at Hotel Hekla.
Please note that if the trail to Tjorsmörk Valley is impassable, we will visit the surroundings of the volcano Hekla and the sights of Thjorsardalur

Day 4 -
Golden Circle and Borgarfjördur
|
Following breakfast, it is time to discover some of Iceland’s natural wonders including an extinct lake-filled volcano and the thundering Gullfoss waterfalls. We visit the Geysir area with its hot springs and mud pools before continuing to the historic Thingvellir National Park, a rift valley and the first place in Iceland to receive UNESCO’s World Heritage status. Here you can stand on either side of the ‘Mid-Atlantic Ridge’ looking down on millions of years of continental plates drifting apart. We take the mountain trail Kaldidalur and pass between the Langjokull and Ok glaciers to the impressive Hraunfossar, the ‘Lava falls’. At around 18.00, after an amazing roundtrip, we arrive at our accommodation in Hotel Hamar close to the town of Borgarnes for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 -
Mystical Snæfellsnes
|
Today, we explore the beautiful Snaefellsnes peninsula dominated by its glacier and volcano which were the setting for Jules Verne’s novel ‘Journey to the Centre of the Earth’ before we visit the picturesque coastline and bird cliffs at Arnarstapi. Continue back to Reykjavik for overnight in the comfortable Centrum Hotel.

Day 6 -
Depart Iceland
|
After breakfast, transfer to the airport in Keflavik for your return flight to the UK.
