Day 2 -
Kick-sled City Tour

We begin our nature winter tour with an excursion to the city of Kiruna by kicksled, a traditional method of travel in Sweden. Discover the three cultures of Sámi, Swedish and Finnish and learn about the city’s fascinating developments. An experienced guide will teach you about the history and diverse architecture of Kiruna.

Day 3 -
Snowshoe Tour

Another fun way of getting around on a nature winter tour at Camp Ripan is by snowshoes. Today we explore the tranquil forest and landscape as we follow in the tracks of native animals. The eerie blue glow of the Arctic Circle enhances the already beautiful scenery and creates a serene atmosphere. Once darkness arrives, the presence of the enigmatic Northern Lights looms and hopefully they will perform their curious dance for us. We stop for hot drinks in a kåta (Sámi tent) before returning back to camp.

Day 4 -
Cross Country Skiing

Today on your nature winter tour, a professional instructor will teach you the basics of cross country skiing. Once you have mastered the essential skills, explore the tracks that run close to the camp.

Day 5 -
Husky Tour through the Forest

Huskies are incredible animals that are extremely important in Arctic regions and today on the nature winter tour you will have the opportunity to meet these gorgeous dogs. The huskies await your arrival with enthusiasm and are keen to lead you by sledge through the shady forest. Once in motion, a real sense of calm envelops you and the only sounds that can be heard are the patter of paws and the dogs’ breathing. Savour some local specialities and warm drinks in a tepee and keep watch for wild animals and their trails on your nature winter tour.

Day 6 -
Hunt for the Northern Lights

One of the most sought after phenomena in the world are the elusive Northern Lights, and Sweden is among one of the best countries to witness them. A nature winter tour at Camp Ripan gives you the chance to journey to vantage points where they are most likely to make an appearance. Hop on board a snowmobile and zip over the snowy landscape away from sources of bright lights, giving you a better chance of seeing the Aurora in all their splendour. We will warm up with hot drinks and a sandwich in a tepee before returning for an interesting slideshow to learn about the phenomena.

Day 7 -
Reindeer Encounter

Reindeer are integral to Sámi culture and on a nature winter tour you can meet the adorable creatures and learn more about them. Today we take snowmobiles and sleds to the reindeer farm where you can feed them and steer them across forest tracks. Lunch and hot drinks can be enjoyed in a tepee before we visit the outdoor museum and Sámi craft shop on our return.
