Norway : Land of the Fjords

Soak up the immense scenery that surrounds the route to Balestrand via Flåm. The Land of the Fjords tour takes us through Dale, Voss and Stalheim Canyon to the charming village of Flåm. Embraced by snow-capped mountains and lush fjords, Flåm is famed for its outstanding beauty. From here, we take the train to Myrdal along one of the steepest railways in the world, passing crashing waterfalls that surge over dramatic ravines. Following a cruise along the mighty Aurlands and Nærofjords, the Land of the Fjords tour continues by coach through the Vika Mountains to Vangsnes. Catching a ferry to Balestrand, we finally reach our destination for the evening at the Kviknes Hotel where we stay overnight.

Today on the Land of the Fjords tour there is plenty of leisure time to take in the sights of this idyllic village. There are two galleries, an aquarium and a museum you can visit or if you prefer to explore the outdoors, hiking, cycling and rowing let you absorb the impressive panoramas. Today we head toward Skei, travelling below the remarkable Jostedal Glacier which is the largest in Norway. We descend Nordfjord before taking an open car ride up the awesome Briksdal Glacier. In the afternoon of today’s Land of the Fords tour, we take a ferry through the UNESCO listed Geirangerfjord, admiring the Bridal Veil and Seven Sisters waterfalls along the way. Later, we return to the Union Hotel which nestles amid breathtaking fjords and azure water.

Next, cross the Grotli Mountains to Lom where you can see the 14th century stave church. This incredible journey maintains its momentum to Lillehammer, taking in the fabulous scenery of Laka Vågåvatn and Gudbrands Valley. We stop for lunch in the alpine ski resort of Lillehammer. Later, we journey past Norway’s largest lake, Mjøsa, which is framed by picturesque mountain scenery. The Land of the Fjords tour concludes in Oslo where you spend the night at the Thon Hotel Opera which can be found in the centre of the city, presenting unspoilt views of Oslo Fjord.
