    Fly to Buenos Aires in preparation for the start of the Great Antarctic Expedition.

  • Day 2 - Buenos Aires/Ushuaia

    Buenos Aires/Ushuaia

    Begin the Great Antarctic Expedition in the most southerly city in the world, Ushuaia. Once on board the specially designed Hurtigruten ship, the Captain will introduce you to the crew and the experienced expedition guides. He will then explain the itinerary for the following day. Relax and acquaint yourself with the ship’s facilities and your living quarters.

  • Day 3 - At Sea

    At Sea

    As the ship sails towards the Falkland Islands, enjoy the views and perhaps attend the onboard lectures to receive greater insight into the destinations you will visit during the Great Antarctic Expedition. Discover the history of the islands and look out for the dolphins and albatross which frequent these waters.

  • Days 4 to 5 - The Falkland Islands

    The Falkland Islands

    Today on the Great Antarctic Expeditionyou will see an abundance of wildlife, from penguins and albatross, to grazing sheep and paddling geese. There are many pubs, shops and charming cafés here, giving you the chance to pick up a few souvenirs and enjoy the local cuisine. If weather permits, you will embark on a hike amongst the spectacular vistas of the Falkland Islands.

  • Days 6 to 7 - At Sea

    At Sea

    During the Great Antarctic Expedition you will have the opportunity to learn more about the highlights and history of the destinations you visit. Today, discover what to expect when you arrive at South Georgia. Listen to the tales and legends of the location’s whaling past and in particular, the fateful story of Ernest Shackleton and the Endeavour.

  • Days 8 to 9 - South Georgia

    South Georgia

    The landscapes of South Georgia are second to none. The rambling terrains are home to a plethora of wildlife so be sure to take your camera with you when you disembark. If weather conditions permit, you will experience the glorious sight of the mountain-flanked Drygalski Fjord and the seal-lined shores of Fortuna Bay.

  • Day 10 - At Sea

    At Sea

    Today is an ideal time to enjoy the landscapes the ship passes on the way to the South Orkney Islands. Take advantage of this time at sea, capturing sensational images of local seabirds and marine life. Again, you can attend onboard lectures and learn of the stringent guidelines in place that protect the Antarctic from environmental harm.

  • Day 11 - South Orkney Islands

    South Orkney Islands

    Originally visited for seal hunting, the islands are now a destination for nature-lovers and photographers from all over the globe. The seal population was almost gone in the 19th century, but with their numbers now increasing, visitors on the Great Antarctic Expedition may see them basking on the shores below the craggy cliff faces that are home to a variety of birds.

  • Day 12 - At Sea

    At Sea

    Relax during this day at sea on the Great Antarctic Expedition as the ship sails past the Washington Strait and the renowned Coronation Island, given its name as it was discovered in 1821 on the coronation year of King George IV.

  • Days 13 to 17 - Antarctica

    Antarctica

    The undisputed highlight of the Great Antarctic Expedition is our much anticipated arrival in Antarctica. Bathed in a perpetual, pristine coating of white, Antarctica is an enticing realm that invites discovery and exploration. Various sites will be visited during your time here and, providing you possess an adequate level of fitness, you will embark on hikes amid the vast terrains.

  • Days 18 to 19 - Drake Passage

    Drake Passage

    Travel along the picturesque Drake Passage as the ship sails back towards Buenos Aires. The lectures continue, allowing you to relive the highlights of your Great Antarctic Expedition.

  • Day 20 - Ushuaia/Buenos Aires

    Ushuaia/Buenos Aires

    After breakfast, alight and say farewell to your fellow passengers on the Great Antarctic Expedition.
