They’ll be making a splash in Rovaniemi this week when the Winter Swimming World Championships take place. Swimming close to the Arctic Circle, in a section of the River Kemi which has been cleared of ice for the event, the 1200 participants will face their fears in a series of challenges including the 420 metre endurance swim.
In temperatures sure to have most of us running for our thermals, the swimmers will be stripping off to their shorts and costumes and braving the icy depths in the name of sport and good fun!
Fortunately, spectators can look forward to a much more comfortable ride. There’ll be hot drinks and snacks to ward off the chills as well as a host of entertainment in Lordi’s Square!
