Autumn: the New Black

Autumn breaks in Scandinavia

It’s that in-between season that so often passes us by - but no longer! NASA predictions for intense Northern Lights activity this autumn mean there’s never been a better season to hunt for the Aurora.

So, if you’re looking for an autumn getaway, what’s on offer?

How about five days immersing yourself in the culture and wildlife of the Vesterålen archipelago on a Norway: Autumn Northern Lights break? Whilst nights are filled with Aurora hunting, days are spent experiencing the Sami way of life, learning all about nature photography and getting up close and personal with the local wildlife on an Eagle Safari.

If the theory of the Northern Lights fascinates you, the Iceland Northern Lights Exploration is just the job! With six evenings of lectures, presentations and guided searches to entertain you as darkness falls and daytimes spent discovering the truly stunning natural attractions of the island, this is a magnificent break.

For the best seat in the house, a trip to the Lapland Igloo Village is a must. As well as three nights in a cosy wooden lodge, you’ll spend one night in one of the resort’s magnificent glass igloos, lapping up uninterrupted views of the skies from the comfort of your bed. Daytimes on this self-drive break can be spent actively - with white-water rafting, adventurously - exploring the area around the Barents Sea and the Russian border or simply having fun with the family at Santa Claus Village.

For those who like to plan their own time, the Northern Lights experience in Menesjarvi is ideal. With a photography workshop and Aurora hunting included, the rest of your time is your own to sample a selection of local activities. Meet reindeer and huskies, discover museums and local crafts and lose yourself in the culture, history and wildlife of this amazing destination.

So, when it comes to planning your next getaway, remember there are four seasons in one year and autumn really is a great time to travel!
