Hear the one about the fast moving glacier? No, it’s not a question you’re often asked is it? As far as most of us are concerned, glacier movements happen over decades, maybe even centuries, but that is not always the case!
Researchers at the University of Washington report that the fastest moving glacier in Greenland hit a record speed of 17km per year in 2012 – over four times the speed of the previous record holder.
Although the speeds recorded in summer are temporary as things slow down significantly in winter, these statistics are still pretty impressive!
