Fifty-five miles in a car – well, it’s a reasonable ride out isn’t is? But fifty-five miles on skis? That’s something altogether different!
The Vasaloppet ski race has a long and interesting heritage in Sweden and is so popular that the 15,800 places for the 2015 race sold out in just 90 seconds in March!
The long-distance cross-country ski event was inspired by a journey undertaken by mythical king Gustav Vasa, who fought off the invading Danes in 1521. It is a major event each year and even the Swedish Royals have taken part in the past.
