When you visit cosmopolitan Sweden, it’s almost impossible to equate this wonderfully welcoming country with its fearsome Viking past. But every now and again the Swedish ancestry shines through – for example in the first ever Tough Viking Race which took place last month in Stockholm.
Participants endured 12 gruelling challenges over a brutal 12km course. From running through electrical wires, to dragging themselves through oozing mud, the course offered the ultimate test of physical strength and endurance.
The Tough Viking Race may not be an overly attractive proposition for most of us, but a fabulous cruise along the Gota canal comes highly recommended, providing an altogether more civilized opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of this truly amazing country.
