Moutka and the Highlights of Lapland

An escape from the hectic schedules of everyday life is just what I needed and discovering Moutka and the highlights of Lapland allowed me to do just that. I spent four nights of utter bliss amongst Finland’s epic wilderness with views of the surrounding forests and the option to participate in numerous activities, or simply enjoy being in one of the most relaxing locations on earth. As the lodge is so far removed from the light pollution of cities and towns, I was free to gaze at the skies in search of the Northern Lights. Even though, on this occasion, they did not appear, the clear views of the stars kept me captivated for hours. As part of my winter trip to the wilderness I also enjoyed dog sledding, snowshoeing and a trip to a reindeer farm. I even got to try my hand at snowmobiling, which, to be honest, I was slightly worried about! But my fears of falling off were soon forgotten as I whizzed through the fells and forests of Saariselkä. Indeed, it was with a heavy heart that I relinquished my claim to the snowmobile - it really was exciting stuff! In between activities on this break, there is ample opportunity to unwind and enjoy the scenery. Meals around the campfire and free time to explore are included as part of the experience.

The answer presented itself when I was given the opportunity to experience the delights of the European Christmas markets. A visit to the assortment of rustic temporary cabins enabled me to “kill two birds with one stone” as it were, by combining a well-earned break with shopping for seasonal gifts for my loved ones.
