Each day on this Canadian Rockies Rail Tour brings new and exciting destinations and activities. You’ll journey by Via Rail between Vancouver and Jasper and on the Rocky Mountaineer between Banff and Vancouver. Travelling through Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff, you’ll enjoy a luxury coach tour and, en route, you’ll take a thrilling helicopter ride and a fabulous wildlife safari.
When it comes to the highlights of this journey, it’s hard to know where to begin. The views of the Rockies from the Rocky Mountaineer are seemingly unbeatable, the sight of Mount Robson (the Rockies’ highest peak) is just stunning – but then you take the cable car up Sulphur Mountain and your expectations are exceeded once more. Even the highways here are outstanding. The Icefields Parkway, or Highway 93, for example, is a 230km stretch of road which runs through the Banff and Jasper National Parks, taking in awe-inspiring scenery and offering great wildlife watching opportunities. And if wildlife is your thing, our evening wildlife excursion gives you the opportunity to look for bears, mountain caribou, moose, wolves and Columbian ground squirrels.

Day 1 - Arrive in Vancouver
Flying into Canada for the start of your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour you’ll stay overnight in Vancouver in a centrally located hotel. Settle into your accommodation and, if you like, take a first look at this fabulous city.
Day 2 - Vancouver to Jasper
With much of the day free on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour, there’s ample opportunity to explore the city before you make your way to Pacific Central Station in the evening to board your VIA Rail train for the start of your amazing tour.
From the minute you embark on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour you’ll be transported back to the golden age of travel. Each of the original railcars used has been enhanced with air-conditioning, café and lounge cars and, of course, access to glass dome cars for the best possible views during your trip. You’ll spend the night onboard the train as you make your way to Jasper.
Day 3 - Arrive Jasper (Rail)
This morning on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour you’ll enter the realm of the Rockies. Here you’ll see snow-capped peaks, stunning waterfalls and expansive glaciers. Get your cameras at the ready for sightings of the 3954 metre Mount Robson and prepare to be amazed!
Arriving in Jasper just after noon, you’ll transfer to the Lobstick Lodge and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Take time to discover the wonders of this fascinating centre and its beautiful surroundings.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch
Day 4 - Jasper to Lake Louise (Coach)
The Icefields Parkway awaits today as you travel by coach to Lake Louise. Highlights of the day include a visit to the Columbia Icefield which covers an area of almost 325 sq km, a ride on the Athabasca Glacier and a trip to the newly opened Glacier Skywalk. This exciting new attraction, located in Jasper National Park, consists of a glass observation platform, 280m off the ground, providing spectacular views of the surrounding area. You’ll also stop off at Lake Louise, the Bow and Peyto Lakes, Crowfoot Falls and the Athabasca Falls. En route, there’ll be plenty of time to look out for local wildlife including bears, elk and moose. Tonight on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour you’ll stay at the Lake Louise Inn.Meals included:Lunch
Day 5 - Lake Louise to Banff (Coach)
Departing Lake Louise mid-morning on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour, you’ll journey by coach to Banff, via the Bow Valley. Arriving around midday, there’s lots to look forward to in this fabulous town. Today, for example, is the day you’ll take our Rockies Heritage Helicopter Tour. This stunning 20 minute excursion offers fabulous views of Kananaskis Valley, Canmore and some of the most impressive peaks in the Rockies. There’s also a fascinating commentary to accompany your trip.
And if you thought today couldn’t get any better on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour you would be wrong! Tonight there’s an evening wildlife safari to look forward to, searching out the amazing creatures that inhabit the National Park here. Overnight at the Spruce Grove Inn.
Day 6 - Morning Tour of Banff with Cable Car Ride
A fascinating tour of Banff and its surroundings kicks off the day on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour. Highlights include visits to the Hoodoos (unusual rock formations), Surprise Corner (we won’t spoil it!), a cable car ride up Sulphur Mountain and the Tunnel Mountain Drive which overlooks Bow valley. The afternoon is free for independent exploration. Overnight at the Spruce Grove Inn.
Day 7 - Banff to Kamloops
Today’s the day you board the Rocky Mountaineer for a train journey you’ll remember forever! En route to Kamloops, the train crosses the continental divide, passing through the amazing spiral tunnels in Yoho National Park. Next on your Canadian Rockies rail Tour, it’s on to Rogers Pass in the Glacier National park, known for its endless snow-capped mountains and amazing glaciers. Late in the day you will stop off at Craigellachie where the Canadian Pacific Railway Trans Canada link was completed in 1885. You’ll spend tonight in Kamloops.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch
Day 8 - Kamloops to Vancouver
Back on the Rocky Mountaineer this morning you’ll follow the Thompson River through Ashcroft – one of the country’s driest towns, past Rainbow Canyon (so called because of its charmingly coloured cliffs), on to see the torrent of water at Hells Gate and through the lush Fraser Valley. You’ll arrive in Vancouver late afternoon and check into your central hotel where you’ll stay for the next four nights.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch
Days 9 to 11 - Vancouver
Vancouver is a simply fabulous place to explore and, on your Canadian Rockies Rail Tour, you can either do this independently or opt for some of the amazing excursions we can arrange for you. Whale Watching, for example, comes highly recommended, offering the chance to see Orcas as well as porpoises, seals, sea lions and Bald Eagles.
