Day 1 - Arrival
On arrival in Winnipeg, transfer to the Inn at The Forks Hotel where you’ll be greeted by a friendly guide. This knowledgeable wildlife and nature enthusiast will accompany you throughout your Northern Lights Canada holiday and will be on hand to provide you with in depth information about your surroundings and its wildlife inhabitants.Meals included:Dinner
Day 2 - Full Day Program in Winnipeg
Today you will visit educational Manitoba Museum. Your first stop is the fascinating, state-of-the-art planetarium where you’ll enjoy an absorbing presentation entitled ‘fire in the sky’. This is followed by an informative photography workshop where you’ll receive crucial guidance on how to capture the best images of the phenomenal Northern Lights in Canada. Later this afternoon, explore the museum’s ‘Inuit People of the North’ exhibition and learn all about the heritage of the area.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3 - Explore Churchill and Enjoy Your First Northern Lights Expedition
This morning, head to Winnipeg airport where you’ll board a flight to the small coastal town of Churchill. When you arrive, spend some time exploring the local area and discovering the stunning scenery that surroundings this quaint town. If you’re interested in science, pay a visit to the fascinating Churchill Northern Studies Centre. Later on, you’ll be treated to a taste of authentic Canadian cuisine as you dine at a local restaurant.
Tonight you’ll begin your hunt for the stunning Aurora Borealis. You’ll travel, via Tundra Buggy, with your expert guide and a small group of fellow travelers, to optimum light spotting sites. Put the skills you picked up in yesterday’s photography workshop to good use as you capture the awe inspiring Northern Lights in Canada.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 - Discover Chruchill and Your Second Northern Lights Expedition
Begin your day with a guided bus tour around Churchill, making several stops to photograph the magnificent landmarks. At the end of your tour you will head over to the Eskimo Museum where, after a short introduction to the exhibits, you will be left to your own devices to explore at your leisure. The museum holds one of Canada’s finest collections of Inuit carvings, kayaks and artefacts dating back some 3500 years!
This evening, head back out into the Arctic forest aboard the all-terrain Tundra Buggy as you search for the otherworldly, dancing Aurora. Perhaps take a notebook and jot down the co-ordinates of the spot from which you saw the Northern Lights in Canada.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5 - Snowshoeing and Your Third Northern Lights Expedition
Embark on an exciting snowshoeing tour this morning. Strap on your snowshoes and head out on an exhilarating trek through the boreal forest and along the Hudson Bay shoreline. Travelling through the wilderness on foot, you’ll be able to get close to local wildlife. Your guide will be on hand to let you know which animals are safe to approach.
Later, the Tundra Buggy will take you out, once more, into the spectacular Canadian winter forest. You’ll have another opportunity to view the breathtaking Northern Lights in Canada. Ask your guide if you need any help with camera settings or have any queries about your surroundings.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6 - Dog Sledding, Parks Canada Cultural Program and Your Fourth Northern Lights Expedition
The first stop on today’s agenda is the stimulating Parks Canada Interactive Centre. Here, you’ll watch a short, educational film about the area before viewing images of Canada’s resident wildlife. Afterwards, you’ll have time to explore the fascinating exhibits and learn all about the town’s culture and history.
This afternoon try a spot of dog sledding. After a crash course, teaching you the basics of dog handling, you’ll set out, with your pack on an exhilarating 20 mile safari through the spectacular wilderness. This journey will give you ample time to get to grips with the dogs and see the area from a whole new perspective. When you return, you’ll be greeted with a warming drink and snack.
This evening, board the Tundra Buggy again as you head out in search of the Northern Lights in Canada for one last time. Ensure you take plenty of pictures and notes so you never forget the surreal vision of these beautiful, green, red and violet lights dancing above your head.Meals included:Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7 - Souvenirs and Memories of Churchill
This morning, enjoy some time exploring Churchill at your leisure. There are plenty of exciting attractions for you to visit such as the Port of Churchill and the Manitoba Conservation Polar Bear Holding Facility, or Polar Bear Jail as the locals call it.
Later, you’ll return to Churchill airport where you’ll board a flight back to Manitoba’s capital, Winnipeg. Here, take the opportunity to explore the local area by visiting some of the city’s fascinating landmarks such as The Forks National Historic Site or Winnipeg Art Gallery.
As the day comes to an end, why not check out Winnipeg after dark? The city plays host to several live music venues where you can see professionals and amateurs perform. There is also a vast range of restaurants and cafes to choose from. Days 8 to 9 - Departure and Overnight Flight
Depending on your flight time, you may have time to check out some more of Winnipeg’s interesting attractions. Perhaps take a short walk and find a local park where you can sit back and relax as you admire the stunning architecture which surrounds you.
Return to Winnipeg airport where you’ll board your flight back to the UK. Hopefully you’ll have taken lots of photographs throughout your trip so you can look back over them on your flight home and remember your Northern Lights, Canada holiday forever!
