A Magical Display

As you might guess, Ice and Snow Hotels in Europe thrive in the colder months and in the northern part of the continent. As such, visitors here are often treated to a sight of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World; the Northern Lights. These mesmerising displays frequently appear in the skies over northern Europe, meaning that one of these adventures provides the chance to witness one of nature’s truly unspoilt and breathtaking creations.

Not only will you have the chance to see the Northern Lights, many of our Ice and Snow Hotels in Europe offer evening and night-time excursions to search for them! Head out on the back of a snowmobile, led by expert guides, and journey to some of the local’s favourite spots for Aurora viewing and enjoy a captivating glimpse of the Lights with uninterrupted views of the clear night sky.

A Swedish Adventure

Sweden boasts the original Icehotel, the first ever snow and ice creation on this scale. Every year, hundreds of artists and designers apply to work on the latest version of this masterpiece, resulting in continually cutting-edge design. The artistic highlights of this are inarguably the Art Suites. Each one is carefully and creatively designed and then expertly crafted to create the unbelievable, otherworldly experience that visitors get. Aside from the accommodation itself, the Icehotel is home to the Icebar, famous worldwide for its unique character and the perfect place to enjoy a cool drink as all the glasses and furniture are made entirely from ice! The first of the Ice and Snow Hotels in Europe offers a fantastic variety of activities and excursions, from the adventurer’s dream of husky sledding and snowmobiling in Lapland to the thrill of ice-driving and the unique opportunity to take part in an ice-sculpting workshop with some of the creators of the Icehotel itself!

Northern Exploration

Enjoy a range of Arctic pursuits in Norwau at Ice and Snow Hotels, Europe

Norway is home to two ice and snow hotels; Sorrisniva and Kirkernes. Sorrisniva is the world’s northernmost ice and snow hotel and offers exceptional chances at a Northern Lights sighting, in fact, a popular excursion here is a night-time snowmobile journey in search of this breathtaking phenomenon. Filled with magnificent decorations, from subtle wall carvings to exquisite sculptures, Sorrisniva is an exceptional choice of accommodation. On a break to this northerly structure, you will stay in the city of Alta, home to the UNESCO-Listed rock carvings estimated to be as much as 7000 years old!

The Kirkenes Snow Hotel is ideal for those looking for an activity break. The surrounding terrain lends itself perfectly to traditional Arctic pursuits such as husky safaris and the less traditional, high-octane snowmobiling adventures that so many dream of trying when they visit the far north. Just like Sorrisniva, Kirkenes offers exceptional Aurora viewing opportunities and many visitors choose to embark on a guided evening snowmobile excursion in search of the Northern Lights. Kirkenes also provides the unique chance to enjoy a snowmobile safari to the Russian border, an unforgettable adventure for any who choose to experience it!

Finnish Fun

Like Norway, Finland is home to two ice and snow hotels: the Lainio Snow Village and the Kakslauttanen Igloo Village. Lainio covers an area of approximately 20,000 square metres and is built from an astounding 300 tonnes of ice and is intricately carved to fit in with the year’s theme. Once again, the Snow Village offers the chance to indulge in a range of Lapland activities including husky sledding and snowmobiling.

The Igloo Village is unique even amongst our selection of Ice and Snow Hotels in Europe, choose between an authentic snow igloo for a traditional night in Finland or, for a little more comfort, a heated glass igloo with panoramic views of the clear night sky and, hopefully, the breathtaking Aurora!
