A Remarkable Hotel Steeped in Viking History

Spread across several buildings, the oldest part of the hotel dates back to 1764. Its recent restoration in 2005 saw the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum become first class accommodation on one of the city’s oldest and most intriguing streets. An interesting aspect of the hotel is the exhibition centre, which is located beneath the building. It houses Viking artefacts that were unearthed during the hotel’s construction, including the oldest human remains ever to be found in Iceland, which date back to around 870 AD. Comprising 89 guestrooms and a superb restaurant, the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum is ideal accommodation for enjoying all that the city has to offer, and it is particularly well placed for going in search of the Northern Lights during the winter months

Location

The Hotel Reykjavik Centrum can be found in the city’s historic quarter and is only a short distance from the seafront. The hotel is next door to the parliament building, known as the Althing, which was built in the 1800s. The striking Reykjavik Cathedral is also nearby, as is the picturesque Lake Tjörnin, which is an idyllic haven for birds in the heart of the capital. With a central location, the hotel has many shops, bars and restaurants in its immediate vicinity and further afield, guests can discover the beauty of the Reykjanes Peninsular or relax in the Blue Lagoon.

Hotel Facilities

Staff at the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum go the extra mile to ensure guests’ comfort, with plenty of added extras like the services of a concierge to assist with sightseeing and round-the-clock room service. For an authentic taste of Reykjavík’s delightful cuisine, the Fjalakötturinn Restaurant provides a terrific buffet breakfast and French gourmet dishes for lunch and dinner, which guests can enjoy in a chic and relaxed atmosphere. The wine list features wines from around the world, each specifically selected to complement the cuisine. While there are numerous superb eateries close to the Hotel Reykjavik Centrum, the Fjalakötturinn Restaurant is not to be missed.
