Husavik

See the creatures of the deep in Husavik

The town of Husavik is known for its amazing whale watching excursions and is, arguably, the best place in Europe to see whales. Boasting an array of 23 species, the waters off Iceland are a whale watcher’s dream and we encourage anyone who can, to take one of the local sea safaris here. The centre of Husavik boasts a vast array of colourful houses, fascinating museums and the wonderful wooden Húsavíkurkirkja church built in 1907. Take time out on the Diamond Circle tour to experience the best of this charming destination.

Asbyrgi Canyon

Discover the wonders of Vatnajokull National park

The horseshoe-shaped Asbyrgi Canyon is situated in the Vatnajokull National Park. Stretching over 3.5km in length and divided into two, for a large part, by the 25 metre high Eyjan rock formation, the canyon boasts 100 metre cliffs. A real draw for nature lovers and photographers on the Diamond Circle tour, this area is simply fascinating.

Lake Myvatn

See the bird life at Lake Myvatn on The Diamond Circle Tour

Lake Myvatn, Iceland’s fourth largest lake, is next on the Diamond Circle route. Formed during a massive volcanic explosion over 2000 years ago, the lake is known today for its amazing birdlife. Indeed, more species of duck are believed to live here than anywhere else in the world. The lake itself is a registered nature reserve, covering an area of around 37 square kilometres and with an average depth of 2.5 metres. It also boasts around 50 islands and islets. An absolute must for bird watchers and nature lovers, this Diamond Circle highlight always proves extremely popular.

Dettifoss

Experience the power of Dettifoss on The Diamond Circle tour

Our Diamond Circle discovery ends in style with a visit to Europe’s most powerful waterfall. Dettifoss Falls are 100 metres wide and have a drop of 45 metres (around the height of the Statue of Liberty) down to the Jökulsárgljúfur canyon. Known as the ‘beast’ in comparison to the ‘beauty’ of Godafoss falls, Dettifoss makes the most of it stark, rocky surroundings to demonstrate the sheer power of nature. Some 96 gallons of water pump down the falls every second and the force of this means that the mist from the falls can be seen from several miles away.
