Day 3 - New Year's Eve
Day three of your Iceland New Year holiday starts with breakfast, before travelling along the South coast, getting close to the active volcano that is beneath the Eyjafjallajökull glacier. Stop at the Seljalandsfoss waterfall - a high but narrow waterfall - which plunges over the mountain. Prepared to get wet? There's a trail that goes behind the falling water and offers interesting views. As you travel further east, you’ll visit one of Iceland's finest folk museums with turf-built houses and an impressive collection of farm and domestic artefacts typical of Iceland's past. One of the most impressive waterfalls in Iceland and standing at sixty metres high, the Skógafoss waterfall is nearby. Your journey continues to the seaside for a stroll on the black lava beach to see the amazing bird cliffs at Reynisfjara near Vík.
This evening it’s time to celebrate New Year the Icelandic way. Start the festivities with a guided bus tour to visit the bonfires in the villages of Hvolsvöllur and Hella. The origins of these bonfires are in the middle ages, when people built bonfires to burn the old things they no longer needed. You’ll see bonfires all around Iceland, where people gather to set off fireworks, sing and dance as they wait to ring in the New Year.
Dinner starts around 2030 and is served at the restaurant on the river banks in Hella, a small village in South Iceland. Shortly before midnight, it’s time to set off your own small fireworks display, before heading to the village to celebrate New Year with a bang! At midnight the sky will be illuminated with thousands of fireworks set off across the village by the locals. This experience of a life time is one you will never forget.Meals included:Breakfast, Dinner

Continue on to the Gullfoss Waterfall known "the golden falls", a magnificent three-tiered waterfall on the Hvítá river, attracting thousands of people from far and wide in summer and winter.
