A spectacular igloo shaped hotel made entirely of ice and snow awaits you in the remote location of Kirkenes in Norway. Set in the furthest corner of mainland Europe, (in the far east of Lapland) the region borders Russia.
Inside the Kirkenes Snow Hotel you will have the opportunity to explore the Snow Chapel, the snow bar and the hotel’s snow suites which feature illuminated snow sculptures. There is also a non-snow restaurant in a traditional Sami lavvo which serves delilcious dishes and is heated by a large, open fire. The restaurant has a small heated room with beds next door for adults and children that don't want to spend an entire night in a snow room. Staff stay in the restaurant overnight to ensure that guests are comfortable, but parents are responsible for their children’s own wellbeing.
A member of staff will advise you on how to keep warm before your night in a snow room. The beds at the Kirkenes Snow Hotel are wooden bases with comfortable mattresses that are surrounded by ice, which ensures a pleasant night’s sleep (many ice hotel beds are ice blocks covered by reindeer pelts). You will be kept snug in a specialist Arctic sleeping bag and a reindeer pelt which is used to cover the bed and provide extra insulation. After your night in a snow room, you will be wakened with a hot drink in the morning. You can also heat up in the sauna at the Rica Kirkenes Hotel which is 1km away from the Kirkenes Snow Hotel, the journey can be made by kick sledge or snowmobile taxi.
