Kruger National Park

Rhinos in the Kruger National Park, a highlight from our South Aftican Holiday Ideas

Visit Kruger National Park and discover Africa’s astounding Big Five. With around 1,800 lions, 9,125 elephants, 25,000 buffalos, 2,300 black and white rhinos and over 1,000 leopards, you are guaranteed to spot plenty of different animals in this magical park. There are also many species of birds here, including the Martial Eagle and Saddle-Billed Stork.

During the rainy season, from October to March, the park blossoms into a flowering paradise making the scenery almost as stunning as the wildlife. However, game can be best viewed here from April to September as animals flock to watering holes, making them easier to spot.

Addo Elephant National Park

An elephant at the Addo Elephant National Park

Our South African Holiday Ideas include a trip to tantalise your senses as you visit this fantastic park. Smell the pungent citrus trees as you travel the area. See large herds of majestic elephants as they wallow in the Sundays River, hear lions roar as they prowl the park and birds call as they circle the air above you.

The best time to visit the Addo Elephant National Parkis during at the start of their summer season (October for us) when the trees are in full blossom and the elephants head to the watering holes more often, increasing your chances of viewing them.

Hluhluwe and Umfolozi

A lioness in the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve

Head to Hluhluwe and Umfolozi National Park and see an impressively large concentration of Black and White Rhinos. With around 1,600 White and 370 Black Rhinos, there is a high probability you'll be treated to fascinating sightings of both species. There are also many other types of animal here including around 24,000 impala.

Whilst in the park, take part in self-drive safaris, self-guided walking tours or expert-led hikes. Walking around the park offers you a great chance to get up close to the amazing animals, however drives are also an excellent way to see the park as you’ll cover more land and see a wider variety of wildlife. Watch out for the elephants that reside here as they tend to be mischievous and block the road right in front of your vehicle.
