Wildlife

Whether you’re travelling in search of the Big Five, looking for predators, amazing birdlife or something altogether more unusual, our Zambian holiday ideas have it covered. This is a country with an outstanding range and density of creatures – over 200 mammal species and 740 bird species for starters - meaning that your wildlife dreams are sure to become a reality here.

Take in elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos and buffalo for starters, ticking off giraffe, zebra, warthog, antelope and a selection of primates here too. Predators including cheetahs, hyenas and the endangered wild dog come next as well as the rather unusual tree climbing lions of Kafue, the ferocious looking Honey Badger and the stunning Mongoose Jackal. Indeed, if you’re looking for an all-round wildlife experience, there really is no better choice.

Safari Styles

If you hanker for a typical, local experience during your stay, our Zambian Holiday Ideas include the iconic Zambian walking safari. These interactive experiences were developed in Zambia many years ago and offer an altogether different kind of encounter with the local wildlife. As well as seeing the animals, walking safaris focus on tracking the creatures, exploring their habitats and really getting to grips with the technicalities of wildlife watching. If you want an authentic experience, look no further!

Our Zambian holiday ideas also offer the benefit of a bird’s eye view of the local wildlife. As you transfer from one camp to another by bush plane, you will be able to see the resident creatures dotted about the landscape, grazing, hunting or frequenting the local watering holes.

National Parks

A major focus of our Zambian holiday ideas, the country’s National Parks are simply amazing in size and stature!  Kafue, for example, covers an area the size of Wales and is the third largest in Africa and boasts a mix of miombo woodlands and game-filled floodplains.

Here you can see one of the most diverse selections of antelope as well as cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, hyenas, elephants, hippos and crocodiles. And for a really unusual experience, don’t miss the park’s stunning tree climbing lions!

South Luangwa National Park, on the other hand, is a remote wilderness, boasting a wide diversity of habitats and a game density and variety rarely experienced in Africa. Look out for antelope, wildebeest, zebra, crocodiles, leopards, lions, baboons, Vervet Monkeys, Honey Badgers, civet and African Wild Dog here. And, when it comes to iconic wildlife sightings, Thornicroft's Giraffe and the Park’s endemic wildebeest subspecies are the ones to look out for.

Natural Attractions

As well as its amazing selection of creatures, Zambia is famed for the stunning Victoria Falls. Classed as the world’s largest waterfall, Victoria Falls is around twice the height of Niagara Falls and over twice the width of the Horseshoe Falls, creating the world’s largest sheet of falling water. Brought to the attention of the Europeans by David Livingstone in 1885 and named after Queen Victoria, the Falls offer visitors a truly amazing experience and can be experienced on a walking tour, whilst white water rafting or from the air, during a helicopter excursion.
